UnHoused Victory – Video
In Los Angeles, thousands of unhoused people live on the streets while the city spends tens of millions clearing their belongings away. A South LA neighborhood riddled with homeless encampments got a massive cleanup here today. On Fox 11 tonight, a major cleanup is underway in Westwood targeting a very visible homeless encampment. City workers out there after residents report a complaint.
For years, the city has destroyed tents, clothes, and personal property during cleanups. Even though people living outside have nowhere to store their things.
In February 2026, the unhouse won a battle. Six unhoused residents and groups like Cape Town for All sued the city.
In Garcia versus the city of Los Angeles, the court found the city had falsified records to hide what it was doing.
The ruling, the government cannot destroy people’s property, even if they are unhouse. This case isn’t just about property. It’s about how cities treat the most vulnerable people. Advocates say these sweeps don’t solve homelessness. They just push people from place to place. Groups like Ktown for All are organizing alongside tenant and immigrant rights coalitions. They argue housing should be a human right, not just something you can afford.
This ruling could change how cities handle homelessness nationwide.
The question is, will cities invest in housing or keep pushing people out of sight?
